Before deciding that one is wrong, it is worth checking whether they answer the same question, include the same population, and evaluate the same results. The discrepancy may lie in the scope, the date of the search, or the way benefits, resources, and preferences are weighted.

A useful comparison makes the difference clear. This method is useful for preparing an academic session, reviewing an update, or studying a professional question; it is not intended to choose a behavior for a specific patient.

Limit one question

Avoid starting with «compare these two guides» if each document has hundreds of pages. Write down the population, the context, and the aspect you want to compare. For example: what information they recommend to be provided to the patient at the end of an outpatient care visit.

With that question, find the exact recommendation in each document. Keep the paragraph number, page number, or direct link. An executive summary makes it easier to navigate, but you may omit conditions that appear in the full text or in the appendices.

Record the version and scope

Note the responsible entity, the publication date, and the most recent update. Also look for the date the literature was reviewed: a newly published guide may have relied on a closed search months earlier.

Check who it includes and excludes. Primary care, hospitalization, and specialist consultation are not interchangeable contexts. Neither are a recommendation for an entire population and one directed at a sub-group. Keep those differences in the comparison, even if they make the final picture less straightforward.

Separate recommendation, evidence and conditions

For each document, prepare a brief form with five fields: recommendation; population and context; certainty of the evidence, if reported; strength of the recommendation, according to your system; and conditions of application. Do not convert different scales into a single, invented score.

The instrument AGREE II It helps to examine the methodological quality and transparency of the guides through dimensions such as rigor, clarity, applicability, and editorial independence. Consulting it provides useful questions; it does not turn a quick read into a formal evaluation or determine for itself which recommendation to apply.

Classify the discrepancy before summarizing it

A difference may be due to new evidence, different populations, differently prioritized results, or available resources. There may also be real uncertainty. In that case, the correct conclusion may be that the documents do not allow the disagreement with the revised information to be resolved.

Imagine two fictitious documents about the delivery of information after an appointment. One requires a written summary at each visit; the other proposes it for meetings with significant changes. Before describing a contradiction, check what they mean by summary, what kind of attention it covers, and what resources they consider. The example illustrates a reading method, not an assistance recommendation.

Use AI to sort the comparison

You can ask for help to locate sections, organize differences, and prepare a first synthesis. A useful instruction is to request that each statement retain its reference and that the missing fields be indicated as unfilled. Avoid asking it to “resolve” the disagreement without showing its grounds.

In Itaca, the clinical answers with sources They allow you to start with a delimited question. When the comparison requires more breadth, it deep research offers a synthesis with sources that you can review. The description of the Evidence tab explains what information it presents.

End with a conclusion that can be traced

Write a paragraph that indicates where the guidelines coincide, what the difference is, and what might explain it. Add any missing information. Each important sentence should be able to be referenced back to the corresponding document without relying on the memory of the person who did the review.

Save the versions you viewed and the date of the comparison. When an update appears, you can review the changed section instead of having to reconstruct the entire search. This traceability makes the comparison useful for you and for the next person who needs to consult it.

Compare the scope, dates, methods, and recommendations of clinical guidelines to understand why they differ and prepare a verifiable summary.

Compare the scope, dates, methods, and recommendations of clinical guidelines to understand why they differ and prepare a verifiable summary.
"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[15

post-5149","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-guides
https://i0.wp.com/itaca.ai/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/itaca-editorial-comparar-guias.webp?fit=1536%2C1024&ssl=1
["GET
