Artificial intelligence for doctors in Peru
Artificial intelligence for doctors in Peru can reduce documentation work, organize medical history, and support evidence-based queries. Its use must preserve the medical record and professional review.
To evaluate a tool, it is helpful to distinguish between the medical record, the electronic system that manages it, and the national registry that allows access to clinical information among authorized facilities.

Clinical history: NTS No. 139-MINSA/2018.
National registry: RENHICE, created by Law 30024.

Telehealth: Framework Law No. 30421.
What medical record management must preserve in Peru
The NTS No. 139-MINSA/2018/DGAIN It establishes technical and administrative procedures for the management, preservation, and disposal of medical records in IPRESS, in addition to a standardized basic content. An AI tool can assist in drafting, but it does not eliminate that management cycle.
| Opening and identification | The history must be unequivocally linked to the patient and the IPRESS providing the care. |
| Care record | Every care provided must be documented with sufficient content, in chronological order, and with professional authorship. |
| Integrity | Changes and additions must preserve the consistency of the record and show who intervened. |
| Access and confidentiality | The information query must correspond to authorized functions and respect patient privacy. |
| Archive and availability | The IPRESS must preserve the medical record and be able to retrieve it within the applicable terms and conditions. |
Standardization does not mean filling all notes with the same text. It means consistently recording what is necessary for care, continuity, and auditing. The Peruvian guide to clinical documentation with AI offers an operational review for clinics and professionals.
PERUVIAN FRAME
Electronic health record and information exchange in Peru
Peru has built a framework that separates the history preserved by each IPRESS, the system that manages it, and the national access mechanism. This architecture matters when clinical support software is integrated.
NTS 139
Streamline the management of medical records and the basic content that IPRESS must record.
Law 30024
Create the National Registry of Electronic Health Records to facilitate authorized access to clinical information.
D.S. 009-2017-SA
It regulates the RENHICE and defines actors, authorizations, and access conditions.
Law 30421
Establishes the telehealth framework and its use of technologies to expand coverage and quality.
Reference institutes and hospitals in Peru
Peruvian high complexity is concentrated in national hospitals and specialized institutes, especially in Lima, along with developing regional networks. Among the reference institutions are:
National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases
Lima. Specialized governing and healthcare institution in oncology, with teaching and research functions.
National Institute of Child Health San Borja
Lima. High-complexity pediatric institute and national reference center.
Cayetano Heredia National Hospital
Lima. National teaching hospital with general and specialized care for the northern area of the capital.
Dos de Mayo National Hospital
Lima. National referral hospital with specialized services and a teaching tradition.

Clinical record, SIHCE, and RENHICE: different functions
These three pieces are related, but they are not interchangeable. AI can assist with a task within the process; it does not replace the institutional system or the national registry.
| Element | Main function | Responsibility |
|---|---|---|
Five questions to evaluate a tool
AI does not solve interoperability, document quality, or data protection on its own. It is a support layer that must fit into the institution's controls and systems.

ITACA EN PERÚ
Itaca prepara borradores clínicos. Su IPRESS conserva la historia oficial.
Itaca helps turn conversations, documents, and quick notes into structured clinical drafts.

No necesariamente.
